The Congress Party's upcoming event marking the centenary of the memorable 1925 meeting between Gandhi and Sree Narayana Guru is generating political discussions in Kerala.
Two former Communist leaders, G. Sudhakaran of the CPI(M) and C. Divakaran of the CPI, mannered that former Communist ministers, both have been satisfied to face the Congress programme to be organized on Wednesday at the Congress state quarters at Thiruvananthapuram.
Sudhakaran and Divakaran were both former State Ministers in the Kerala Cabinet 2006-2011 under V.S. Achuthanandan, so were critical of their party leadership for the last few years.
Though they have not officially disconnected themselves from their parties, both are surmised to be dissatisfied with the internal politics of their respective organizations.
Sudhakaran, at an earlier phase commendable known for his doctrinal principle among the leaders of the CPI(M), was felt more increasingly sidelined under the leadership of Chief Minister Vijayan.
He had been shunned by the undemocratic process that saw his national party days ahead of the 2021 CPI(M) State Conference not solicit his views, thereby succeeding to further alienate his association with party schemes.
Bolstered by that process, and with a visit from AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal to his house today, it is only a question of what Abu Abdullah will do politically.
In the same vein, it was C. Divakaran who began to mouth off with the CPI pooh-poohing him, especially after the 2021 election fiasco. The wind was knocked out of his political sails when he finished in third place for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
His disillusionment with CPI and its leadership is being interpreted to deepen the speculations about his next course.
The attendance of V.D. Satheesan, the Opposition Leader, to inaugurate the function and V.M. Sudheeran, veteran participant of Congress, sanitizes the ceremony's legacy of the 100th anniversary of Gandhi-Sree Narayana Guru meeting 1925 at Vanajakshi Mandiram near Sivagiri. These two formerly mighty personalities of the Left politics in Kerala are therefore bound to be the garnishing addition to the centenary celebration.
